{"id":72,"date":"2012-08-21T19:38:37","date_gmt":"2012-08-21T19:38:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mobiledriving.co.uk\/blog\/?p=72"},"modified":"2012-08-21T19:40:21","modified_gmt":"2012-08-21T19:40:21","slug":"driving-up-and-down-hills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mobiledriving.co.uk\/blog\/2012\/08\/21\/driving-up-and-down-hills\/","title":{"rendered":"Driving up and down hills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some learner drivers have problems maintaining the correct speed when negotiating hills.<\/p>\n<p>It is important to be in the correct gear for the incline you are negotiating.\u00a0 When going uphill you need to be in a gear that is powerful enough to allow you to drive at an appropriate speed up the hill.\u00a0 When going downhill you need to be in a gear that is low enough to assist you in controlling the speed of your car whilst travelling down the hill.\u00a0 This is known as engine braking.<\/p>\n<p>As a general rule, use the same gear for going down a hill, as you would for going up the same hill.\u00a0 This means:\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>STEEPER THE HILL = LOWER THE GEAR.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stay safe and enjoy your driving.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some learner drivers have problems maintaining the correct speed when negotiating hills.
